Over the course of 2018-19, we worked with the Loyola school in New York City to install a brand new school garden. We facilitated a school-community design process, which engaged students, teachers, and faculty in building a collective vision for the garden as well as to identify collective learning goals. Then, we worked with 9th-12th graders to install 11 brand new garden beds on the school’s patio. And over the following 18 months, Root Catalyst returned to Loyola once each season to provide season garden support and facilitate workshops with students focused on Food Sovereignty, Environmental Justice, Sustainability, and Urban Agriculture.
